Course Information
Description
This module aims to enable learners to plan, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning approaches by applying the interpretation of observations and documentation of children’s learning, applying knowledge of foundations of effective teaching and learning approaches and collaborating with colleagues. This module also aims to highlight the importance to foster trusting, respectful relationships with children by demonstrating an understanding of, and respect towards, children of different temperaments and culture and appropriate strategies to guide the development.
This course is available in English and Mandarin language.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of this module, students will be able to:
- Create and organise the indoor/outdoor physical environment for structured/unstructured play
- Set-up appropriate learning centres to promote physical, intellectual, emotional and social development
- Prepare lesson delivery on Language and Literacy, Numeracy Skills, Environmental Awareness, Aesthetics, Creative Expression and Appreciation of the Arts (Art and Craft and Music, Movement and Drama), Self and Social Development (including Health Awareness), Perceptual, Fine and Gross Motor Skills Development;
- Plan for learning experiences, including lesson plans, integrating learning experiences in a developmentally and culturally appropriate early learning programme;
- Construct early learning environments: child-centred, knowledge-centred, community centred;
- Plan for problem-solving, interactive, discovery and experiential learning (includes project work and integrated learning);
- Plan for transition to primary school;
Entry Requirements
- Minimum age of 17 years old
- Academic Level: At least 1 GCE ‘O’ Level pass or its equivalent
- Language Proficiency: English or Chinese ‘O’ level pass or its equivalent

Modules
Course Structure and Duration
Students are required to complete 460 hours over 8 month of full-time study or 16 months of part-time study.
Requirement for Award
Students who successfully passed all the required assessments and met a minimum attendance of 75% will be awarded Statement of Attainment (SOA) by SkillsFuture Agency Singapore.
Delivery Mode and Assessment
The course is delivered through a variety of engaging, interactive and hands-on modes, which include lecture, role-plays, case studies, child observation, small group discussions, and videos. Assessments methods includes preliminary reading and assignment.
