Description
Programme Objectives
The Master of Science Sustainable Tourism programme will enable students to better understand how to protect and exploit fragile socio-economic resources. They will examine international best practice and learn how to shape new sustainable futures. Key issues such as ecotourism, challenges to implementing sustainable practices in tourism, slow tourism with a focus on rural, wellbeing and wellness travel will be covered.
The sustainability agenda, and change management will also be explored, and the course will develop the student’s theoretical knowledge of models and concepts applicable to real world scenarios.
The programmes aim:
- To enhance students’ understanding of the nature, global complexity and range of impacts of the tourism
- To enable students to critically apply social science and management theories, concepts and frameworks to enhance their knowledge of tourism
- To professionalise the development of higher level thinking, problem solving and practical management skills
- To develop students’ ability to think creatively and independently through planning and conducting research and effectively communicating findings in oral and written formats
Entry Requirements
Applicants must be of age 19 and above and possess one of the following:
- A second lower class Bachelor's degree (any discipline)
- Other qualifications or appropriate experience recognised as being the equivalent of an honours degree
Note: All applications are subject to University approval.
English Language Requirement
Applicants are required to possess one of the following:
- IELTS 6.0 (with no element below 5.5)
- MDIS Professional Certificate in English (PCIE)
- Pearson PTE 52 (no element lower than 51)
- Cambridge English Test Advanced – 170 (no element below 160)
- Pass the MDIS English Placement Test
- Letter from College/University clearly stating the Medium of Instruction of the highest qualification to be English
- or Equivalent
