Description
Programme Objectives
This programme has been designed for graduate students with an interest in environmental issues and/or environmental management. Environmental management involves the protection and conservation of natural resources, from the air we breathe, to the water we drink to the ecosystems that support life to the renewable and non-renewable energy and materials that are exploited for modern living and the disposal of waste. On this course one benefits from an applied and multi-disciplinary approach, gaining a working knowledge of biology, chemistry, ecology, geography, geology, and the social sciences, delivered by research and practice-led teaching staff, drawing on case studies and active academic and professional experience. Students will gain knowledge and skills needed to navigate the scientific, social, technological, and regulatory aspects of an environmental management career. They learn how to communicate scientific principles clearly and effectively to a range of stakeholders from local community members/groups to national/international governing bodies.
Learning Outcomes
The aim of the programme is to deepen students’ knowledge in the core areas of environmental management:
- Develop the students’ critical understanding of the environment issues and allow them to deepen and broaden their knowledge of professional techniques and approaches;
- Provide the students with the skills to synthesize information from a wide variety of sources and develop their effective decision-making abilities in solving complex environmental management problems;
- Develop the skills necessary for the students to operate professionally and ethically when planning and implementing environmental projects;
- Provide an industrially, commercially and professionally relevant education by providing students with lifelong learning skills and an ethos of continual professional development;
- Consolidate learning through a negotiated, self-managed major project in Environmental Management
Entry Requirements
- At least a lower second class (2.2) UK honours degree or equivalent qualification, in a subject related to science, technology, engineering, or business/management OR
- Mature candidates 30 years old and above with 8 years of relevant work experience OR
- Equivalent
English Language Requirement
Applicants are required to possess one of the following:
- C6 in English at GCE 'O' Level OR
- IELTS 6.0 (with no elements below 5.5) OR
- MDIS Professional Certificate in English OR
- Pass MDIS English Placement Test OR
- Letter from College/University clearly stating the Medium of Instruction of the highest qualification to be English OR
- or Equivalent
