Introduction to Mixing Certificate (School of Music and the Arts)
Course Information
Description
Course Overview
Mixing is one of the final stages of music production, and when done well, can take your productions to a whole new level – adding sheen, shine and bringing the elements of the project together.
This course aims to introduce you to the fundamentals of the mixdown process, focusing on the tools and concepts needed to successfully execute a mix. With plenty of hands-on opportunities to mix commercially-recorded stems, you will also learn the essential skill of critiquing your own mixes, as well as receive instructor’s feedback on how to improve your mixes.
At the end of the course, you will be equipped with a step-by-step guide on how to go about achieving the sounds you desire during the mix process. Most importantly, you will be able to continue improving on your mixing skills beyond this course to becoming a better mix engineer.
This course will be conducted entirely “in the box” using Pro Tools as our DAW of choice. However, the concepts and techniques are applicable to any live sound or post production situations, using any DAW you are comfortable in.
Students will need a pre-requisite basic DAW knowledge (importing/export tracks, set up I/O, adjust faders) before registering for the course.
