Course Overview

In this introductory course on electronic music, you will learn how to get started on creating your own original electronic music tracks and remixes. Using the resources of SOMA’s Mac Lab, you will exposed to the basics of using a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software, sequencing and looping techniques, and finally concepts of music arrangement in a variety of contemporary styles such as drum and bass, trance, electro, downtempo, hip hop, house and techno.

Topics include learning to lay down beats and grooves, composition techniques used in electronic and dance music, arrangement in different styles, sound design and synthesis, working with samples and soft synths, and using effect to enhance a final mix.

Finally you will be taught the necessary tools and techniques to remixing tracks, as well as post-production concepts such as mixing, mastering and publishing.

By the end of the course, you will have gained a strong foundation and technical skills in electronic music production, preparing you for that career you have always dreamt of as a dance music producer or club DJ.
