The uniqueness of DIT programme is its emphasis on practical problem-solving and decision-making skills essential to today’s knowledge-based economy.

Furthermore, it provides a broad-based software development training to complement the national effort in nurturing talents to join the infocomm industry, and to help meet the industry’s manpower demands.

Prerequisite(s)
Applicants who do not meet the direct academic entry requirement are required to complete Information Technology Foundation Studies (ITFS) programme.

Entry Requirements

Accepted Entry Qualifications

  • GCE A-level, IB diploma, or other equivalent pre-university certifications, or Polytechnic diploma, or SIM GE’s foundation programme, namely, Management Foundation Studies (MFS)
  • Other qualifications will be assessed based on the equivalence to GCE ‘A’ level examinations.

Applicants who do not meet the academic requirements might be recommended to undergo the 6-month Management Foundation Studies (MFS) programme.

Equivalent International Qualifications

International applicants will be assessed on the qualification’s equivalent to the GCE ‘A’ level examinations. For information on international qualifications, refer to SIM’s International Student Prospectus.

English Language Requirements

  • GCE ‘O’ level credit pass (Grade 1 to 6) in English (as a first language); or 
  • IELTS with an overall score of at least 5.5; or 
  • TOEFL score of at least 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) plus 4 in the Test of Written English (TWE) or 59 (iBT); or 
  • An equivalent English language qualification. 

Applicants who do not meet the English language requirement would need to undergo the Certificate in English Language (CEL) programme prior to enrolment in the MFS and Diploma programmes. 

The duration of the CEL programme depends on the applicant’s English language proficiency level.

Applicants can sit for an English Placement Test conducted by SIM to determine their English language proficiency level.

Notes:

  • IELTS or TOEFL scores must be less than two years at point of enrolment.
  • The SIM English Placement Test results will be valid for one year from the date of the test.

Career Opportunities

Upon successful completion of the DIT programme, the latter offered a viable and attractive educational pathway to undergraduate programmes (with advance standing).

Graduates of the Diploma in Information Technology will continue to find jobs in Software, IT Services, Internet and end-user organisations. Fresh graduates are typically employed in entrant positions of IT Development job roles and Network and Systems related job roles.

Modules

Structure

  • Lecturers are both academic and industry-based professionals with extensive work experience and practical domain knowledge.
  • Average teacher-student ratio 1:33
  • The course is 100% face-to-face lecture-based learning. Coursework includes attendance at lectures, practical assessment, tests, presentations, and completion of group and individually written assignments.
  • Students are required to access the Internet for research and assignments in their own time. Besides attending lectures, students also participate in computer lab sessions.
  • Contact hours: 60 hours per module, total hours: 480. Each lesson: 3 hours.
  • Classes and workshops are available on learning study skills, academic writing and presentation.
  • Academic materials:
    • Virtual Learning Environment
    • Academic materials such as module outlines, e-books and learning apps, past exam papers, reading lists and handbooks on good study strategies.
  • Minimum class size to commence: 25 students. Students will be informed within 30 days before class commences.

Assessment & Attendance

  • Each module is assessed through multiple continuous assessments.
  • Continuous assessments may include practical assessment, class tests, discussions, presentations, group, and individual assignments.
  • To attain a pass for each module, students must achieve overall minimum GPA of 1.0 (grade D).
  • Attendance requirement
    • Local students: 75%
    • Student’s Pass holders: at least 90% attendance in any month of the course (as required by the Singapore Immigration Checkpoint Authority
