Course Overview
Development studies examine the policies and institutional mechanism behind usually developing a large-scale place e.g., a city to enhance its social, economic and environmental progress.
This course offers students to investigate the causes and implications of urban development and to evaluate policy choices for a more equitable and sustainable future. It provides a solid basis for you to evaluate the integration of economic, political, and social elements of development policy and practice. You will examine the critical global challenges in a local, national, or international setting.
Students may use it as a pathway into further learning in the advanced levels which will impart further knowledge and abilities in the domain of urban planning, real estate, urban economics etc.
Diploma in Development Studies is divided into 5 learning modules followed by a month long stay in field project for a chosen city course provider.
Entry Requirements
ADMISSION CRITERIA
- Minimum Age 17
- Academic Level: Minimum PASS in 3 GCE ‘O’ Level subjects or equivalent qualifications
- Language Proficiency: C6 in GCE ‘O’ Level English or equivalent qualifications or a pass in the English placement test by the college

Progression Requirements
- A minimum of 90% attendance is A minimum of 90% attendance is required for international students and 75% attendance is required for local students
- Minimum mark of 50% is required to pass each modules each module

Graduates of this Diploma in Built Environment Studies will be equipped with foundational knowledge of the Built Environment Industry which will enable them able to pursue careers within the Built Environment Industry.

Module 1: 1 lesson per week × 3 hours per lesson over 3 weeks (9hrs) + 21 hours tutor led assignment consultation over 7 days. Total 30hrs.
Module 2 to 5: 1 lesson per week × 3 hours per lesson over 4 weeks (12hrs) + 0.5hr video and quiz x 4 sessions (2hrs) + 21 hours per module tutor led assignment consultation over 7 days. Total 35hrs per module. Full time to take 2 modules instead of 1 module.
Module 6: Field Study
Pre-Trip: 3 lessons x 3 hours per lesson (9hrs)
During Trip : 7 hours per day over 20 days (140hrs)
Post -Trip : 1 lesson x 3 hours per lesson project presentation, debrief (3hrs). Total 152hrs.
