Course Overview
Certificate in Music (CMus) is a one-year full-time course for aspiring musicians to build a strong and broad foundation in musical and industry knowledge.
CMus provides you with structured classes in your chosen principal study. Under one-to-one guidance by dedicated lecturers, you will enhance your musical awareness and build up your repertoire. You will also develop better knowledge of your selected instrument or vocal major.
Beyond that, you will also understand the traits of a successful musician through taking modules focusing on the various facets of the music industry. You will develop key skill sets such as effective communication and technology savviness to better navigate the dynamic music industry.
Successful CMus graduates will be fully prepared to enroll in our Diploma in Music (DMus) course.
Graduates will receive a Certificate in Music conferred by Singapore Raffles Music College. You will have:
- A performance proficiency equivalent to the London College of Music (LCM)/Trinity Guild Hall/ABRSM Grade 6 or better in your chosen principal study,
- A music theory proficiency equivalent to the London College of Music (LCM)/Trinity Guild Hall/ABRSM Grade 5 or better.
Entry Requirements
- At least 15 years old
- Completed Secondary 4 (for local students), Junior Middle School, or its international equivalent
- Pass SRMC’s Audition
- Take SRMC’s Music Theory Placement Test (The Music Theory Placement Test Guide can be found here)
- Meet English Language Requirements
Audition
- Instrumentalists: 3 – 6 minutes performance, TWO pieces from contrasting periods
- Classical Vocal Singers: 3 – 6 minutes performance, THREE songs
- Pop Vocal/Contemporary Instrumentalists: 3 – 6 minutes performance, THREE pop songs (any language)
As a guide, repertoire presented should be of Grade 6 standard.
English Language Requirements
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 4.0, or
- GCE ‘N’ / ‘O’ Level English Language – Grade C or above, or
- SRMC’s English Placement Test, or
- Other English Language Proficiency Tests (TOEFL etc) – will be considered on a case-by-case basis
