Description
Programme Objectives
This program aims to develop the skills and behaviours required for the national and international professionals working within a complex healthcare system. This course develops the knowledge, skills, behaviours and attitudes required to manage and lead professional healthcare workers in practice and organizations while encompassing current international, national and local healthcare priorities. Students would be able to demonstrate effectiveness and confidence in healthcare management and be adaptable in using interpersonal and communications in a wider range of situations by being proactive in healthcare management and leadership.
The main aims of this program are to enable students to:
Personal and Transferable skills:
- Take responsibility for own learning and development using reflection and feedback to analyse own capabilities, appraise alternatives and plan and implement actions
- Demonstrate effectiveness and confidence in healthcare management and be adaptable in using interpersonal communication in a wide range of situations
- Work effectively within a team to be supportive and proactive in management and leadership
- Explore and articulate understanding of risk management and change management for efficient and effective healthcare systems
- Select from a wide range of digital media appropriate to the task and operate responsibly within digital environments
- Explore and be creative to address evidence-based decisions and management issues with the multidisciplinary team, in complex situations and acknowledging accountability in these decisions
Research, Knowledge and Cognitive Skills:
- Develop critical skills in literature searching and critique to work with, and articulate abstract ideas, arguing from competing perspectives and to recognise the possibility of new concepts within existing knowledge frameworks
- Critique theoretical research models aspiring to seek new management information for high quality healthcare delivery
- Explore data and judge the reliability of patterns and relationships for management, to inform a choice of solutions to problems in healthcare
Professional Skills:
- Use knowledge of a range of management theories and drivers from a global perspective, to identify and produce evidence-based strategies for healthcare quality and improvement
- Incorporate awareness and critical evaluation of ethical and legal issues in the management of healthcare from a local, national and international perspective
- Demonstrate management knowledge and responsibility of organisational/team dynamics and how to build engagement and develop high performance with others
Entry Requirements
Applicants must be of age 18 and above and must possess ONE of the following entrance requirements:
- A minimum 2:2 Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare related subjects OR
- Relevant polytechnic / overseas polytechnic diploma in Healthcare management or clinical/Allied health or community health (equivalent to level-5, 120 Credit foundation degree or higher national degree) with a pass grade and an entry requirement of 10 years of formal education OR
- Relevant PEI qualification in Healthcare management or clinical/Allied health or community health (equivalent to level-5, 120 Credit foundation degree or higher national degree) with an entry requirement of 12 years of formal education OR
- Mature candidates who possess other qualifications should be 30 years old and above with at least 8 years of relevant working experience

English Language Requirements
Applicants are required to possess one of the following:
- C6 in English at GCE 'O' level OR
- IELTS 6.0 (with no elements lower than 5.5) OR
- MDIS Professional Certificate in English (PCIE) OR
- Pass MDIS English Placement Test OR
- Letter from College/University clearly stating the Medium of Instruction of the highest qualification to be English OR Equivalent
