Programme Objectives
Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly important in developments in all parts of business and society. This course provides one with knowledge of computer science topics and specialist skills in artificial intelligence, opening the door to a range of careers from automative design to health care.
One will develop strong theoretical and technical knowledge and skills in computer science as well as specialist knowledge and skills in artificial intelligence, which will provide the directly transferable skills for a career in the artificial intelligence industry.
One will explore state-of-the-art technologies, concepts and theories supported by a thriving active research community. Students gain specialist knowledge and experience in the development of intelligent systems. Topics studied include machine learning, agent-based modelling, intelligent support systems, planning and logistics, virtual agents and hybrid algorithm design.
The distinctive nature of this award is the alignment with Teesside University’s AI and machine learning research groups coupled with direct involvement with industry partners throughout the student journey
The overall aims of the programme are to:
- Enable students to explore the complex body of knowledge associated with computer science and artificial intelligence.
- Develop the students’ cognitive skills essential for analysing, designing and evaluating computer-based and artificial intelligence systems.
- Equip students with the industry-relevant knowledge and skills required to construct software and artificial intelligence-based systems
- Encourage students to seek professional employment or pursue further study.
- Produce graduates who will uphold the legal, ethical and professional standards expected of a computer scientist or artificial intelligence specialist, whilst appreciating the social, economic and environmental impact of computing on the world.
- Produce graduates with the skills needed to secure employment and embark upon a professional career within computer science or artificial intelligence.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must be of age 17 and above and must possess ONE of the following entrance requirements:
For Year 1 entry
- MDIS International Foundation Diploma in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Art OR
- At least two GCE 'A' Levels OR
- Relevant foundation diploma qualifications in Information Technology related disciplines awarded by other Private Education Institutions (PEIs) (equivalent to pathway programme) with an entry requirement of 10 years of formal education OR
- MDIS International Foundation Diploma in Information Technology
For Year 2 entry
- Relevant diploma level qualifications in Computer Science/Information Technology/Cybersecurity related disciplines awarded by other Private Education Institutions (PEIs)(equivalent to 1st year EDP) with an entry requirement of 12 years of formal education*^
For Year 3 entry
- Relevant local/overseas polytechnic diplomas in Information Technology related disciplines with an entry requirement of 10 years of formal education OR
- Higher National Diploma level qualifications in Information Technology related disciplines OR
- Relevant PEIs qualifications (equivalent to 1st and 2nd year EDP) in areas related to Information Technology with entry requirement of 12 years of formal education

^ Applicants may be required to undertake bridging modules to fulfil the required prerequisite knowledge and cope with the rigours of the course.
English Language Requirements
Applicants are required to possess one of the following:
- C6 in English at GCE 'O' Levels OR
- IELTS 6.0 (with no elements lower than 5.5) OR
- MDIS Professional Certificate in English OR
- Pass MDIS English Placement Test OR
- Letter from College/University clearly stating the Medium of Instruction of the highest qualification to be English OR Equivalent
